PETG, a non-crystalline copolyester, is created by replacing some ethylene glycol with 1,4-cyclohexane dimethanol (CHDM) during production. This improves processing, transparency, and impact resistance compared to PET.

PETG is highly transparent and ideal for thick-walled products. It offers excellent formability and can be shaped using traditional methods like extrusion, injection molding, and blow molding. PETG sheets are widely used for applications like plates, sheets, shrink films, bottles, and specialty shapes.

PETG boasts excellent weather resistance due to UV absorbers that shield it from harmful rays and prevent yellowing. It’s also easy to machine and fabricate. PETG sheets can be sawed, drilled, punched, bent, and even have minor scratches buffed out with heat. Additionally, they can be bonded with solvents and undergo processes like flocking and electroplating.

PETG is chemical resistant, FDA-approved for food contact, and environmentally friendly. It offers a balance of affordability (compared to PC) and durability (compared to acrylic). Notably, PETG sheets thermoform easily at lower temperatures and with shorter cycles compared to PC or acrylic, resulting in higher yields. They are also 15-20 times tougher than general-purpose acrylic and 5-10 times tougher than impact-modified acrylic, reducing cracking risks.
